Historical Context of Marginalization

Nepal’s social fabric has historically been woven with stratifications based on caste, ethnicity, gender, and geography. Dalits, indigenous groups, and other marginalized communities have faced systemic discrimination, exclusion from opportunities, and denial of access to education, health care, economic resources, and political representation. Poverty, illiteracy, social stigma, and lack of access to decision-making forums further entrenched their disadvantaged status.

Women, especially Dalit and Muslim women, continue to face intersectional discrimination, bearing the brunt of both patriarchy and caste-based exclusion. Youth and children in these communities remain vulnerable to child labor, migration exploitation, lack of quality education, and limited career opportunities.
